EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a widely researched and evidence-based modality created to assist in lowering distress around painful memories from the past. Originally developed to heal PTSD, EMDR has now been shown to be effective in other populations such as depression, relationship problems, anxiety, grief, substance use, and many more. During the therapy process, the client with the support of the therapist, brings up past memories and incorporates bilateral stimulation or eye movements to mimic the natural brain process that occurs in REM sleep. With the usage of this modality clients are able to obtain relief and access adaptive material to decrease disturbance around difficult life experiences.
